What to expect
Kamari is about as close to the airport as any resort gets, so a departure from here rarely disrupts a morning on the beach. The drive runs back the short distance towards the runway, past Karterados and Monolithos, and is over almost as soon as it starts.
The only planning worth doing is around the hotel itself. Rooms on the seafront promenade are reached by the driver from the street behind it, since the promenade is closed to cars, so allow a few minutes to walk the bags out to the car.
Because the drive is short, most of the departure planning should go on check-in time rather than the road. An afternoon flight leaves a realistic late morning on the beach, and an evening flight still allows a full day by the water first.
Night departures are straightforward too. The resort's own buses and passing traffic thin out after dark, so a booked car is the reliable way to the terminal for a late flight, at the same price as a morning ride.
Where the driver meets you in Kamari

- 1
Kamari is flat and most hotels have a road at the door, so the driver comes to the lobby. Give the hotel name when you book.
- 2
Hotels on the beach promenade are the exception. The promenade is closed to cars, so the driver stops on the street behind it, at the end nearest your hotel, and walks the bags through.
- 3
For a pickup from the beach or a restaurant, name the nearest side street to the promenade; the driver confirms the corner by message and waits 15 minutes free.
Arriving in the airport
For a ride to the airport the driver drops you at the departures entrance. Allow about 10 minutes for the drive from Fira and 20 from Oia, plus the airline's check-in time; in July and August add 10 minutes for traffic on the caldera road.

Good to know
- A late beach morning before an afternoon flight is realistic here. The drive itself takes up very little of the day.
- Hotels on the seafront promenade are reached from the street behind it, so allow a short flat walk with the bags before the car can leave.
- Give the flight number when you book. Even on this short drive, the driver checks it in case the schedule has changed.
- The resort's buses thin out well before the last flights land, so a booked car matters more for an evening departure than for a morning one.
Questions about this route
How much of the morning does the transfer to the airport take?
Very little. At about 10 minutes for 6 km, it is one of the shortest drives on the island, which leaves most of the morning free before an afternoon flight.
Does the car collect me from a hotel on the seafront?
The driver stops on the street behind the promenade, since it is closed to traffic, and carries the bags the short distance from there. Away from the seafront, the car comes to the door.
Is there a taxi rank in Kamari for a same-day departure?
Not one to rely on. Cars here are mostly called rather than hailed, and in the evening most are busy elsewhere, so a booked pickup is the safer plan for a flight.
How early should I book for a morning flight from Kamari?
The drive itself needs very little time, so plan around the airline's check-in window rather than the road. Give the flight number when you book so the pickup time is set correctly.
