Imerovigli sits on the highest point of the caldera rim between Fira and Oia, and almost every hotel in it is built into the cliff below the road. The village centre is pedestrian, a church square, a car park, then lanes that turn into steps and drop towards the hotels and the path out to Skaros rock. A car goes as far as the road and no further.
That makes the meeting point the important part of every pickup. With your hotel name the driver picks the closest spot on the road, usually the top of the hotel's lane, and confirms it the day before. On the day the driver waits there with the car, walks down for the bags when the hotel is within a short walk, and gives you 15 minutes free from the agreed time. For a hotel deep on the cliff, ask reception the evening before to help bring the bags up.
Imerovigli is central. The airport is 8 km off, about 10 minutes of driving. Athinios port is 11 km, about 15 minutes. Fira is 2 km and 5 minutes, close enough that dinner in Fira is a short ride rather than a walk with the return uphill. Oia is 10 km, about 10 minutes along the caldera road, which is slow at sunset in summer and slower coming back.
Most rides from Imerovigli are hotel to airport, hotel to port and evening runs to Oia or Fira. - Sunset brings walkers along the caldera path from Fira and cars along the road to Oia. Between June and September a pickup between 18:00 and 21:00 needs extra margin.
- Oia is 10 minutes away, and the road back after sunset is slower than the road there. Dinner runs to Oia and back are booked as two legs in one booking.
- Hotels here rarely have a car at the door. Tell the hotel your pickup time and ask whether a porter can bring the bags up to the road.
- Skaros rock is reached on foot from the village; there is no road. The driver drops you at the church square, the closest point by car.
