It is the longer of the two beach-resort sunset runs, and worth booking with that distance in mind.
Because the trip involves a full crossing of the island, timing matters more here than on a short hop. Between June and September the caldera road slows well before the sun itself sets, as the whole island's sunset traffic converges on the same stretch through Imerovigli, so leaving Kamari earlier than the plain drive time suggests is the safer plan.
Oia has no taxi rank to fall back on, and the crowd leaving after sunset all wants the same road at once, so the return trip is best booked as a second leg in the same booking rather than arranged on the spot.
