Fira to Santorini Airport by private taxi
A taxi from Fira to the airport costs from €30 for the whole car, day or night. The drive is only 6 km and about 5 minutes, so a departure from our base town needs less lead time than one from further along the caldera.

What to expect
Leaving from our base town is the simplest departure on the island. Most hotels sit on a road the car can reach directly, and the ones on the caldera side are a short carry up from the walkway to the nearest street, not a long walk through lanes built for pedestrians only.
The drive itself runs back across the middle of the island the way it came, past Messaria and the inland villages, and rarely takes longer than the ordinary time of day suggests. The one exception is getting through the town centre itself during the cruise season, when coaches and day-trippers fill the streets near the cable car from mid-morning.
A saloon covers two people and the usual holiday luggage. Five or more passengers, or a group returning with extra bags picked up along the way, need the van, which has the boot space to match.
Late flights and early ones cost the same. Give the flight number when you book, and if a restaurant or a bar in town is the starting point rather than a hotel, name it and the driver works out the closest spot the car can reach.
Where the driver meets you in Fira

- 1
Fira has two halves. Hotels on the main road and in the streets behind it get the car at the door; hotels on the caldera side sit below the pedestrian walkway, down steps a car cannot use.
- 2
For a caldera-side hotel the driver tells you the meeting point the day before, usually the road nearest the hotel's steps, and walks down to help with the bags when the lane allows.
- 3
For a pickup from the centre, the driver names a spot on the ring road or by the cable-car top station. Waiting is free for 15 minutes at any address.
- 4
Give the hotel name and the number of bags when you book; the driver knows which street sits above which steps.
Arriving in the airport
For a ride to the airport the driver drops you at the departures entrance. Allow about 10 minutes for the drive from Fira and 20 from Oia, plus the airline's check-in time; in July and August add 10 minutes for traffic on the caldera road.

Good to know
- Caldera-side hotels sit below the pedestrian walkway, so allow a few minutes to walk cases up to the road before the drive even starts.
- The streets near the cable car fill with tour groups by mid-morning in summer, which can slow the car reaching your hotel more than the drive to the airport does.
- An early flight from Fira is straightforward. The town is quiet before the shops open, and the short drive leaves margin for check-in.
- Give the flight number when you book so the driver can check it against the schedule before setting off to collect you.
Questions about this route
How much notice do I need for an early flight from Fira?
Since the drive itself is short, most of the planning goes on check-in rather than the road. Book the pickup for the time that gets you to the terminal with the usual airline margin, not by the drive time alone.
Does the taxi come to the door in Fira?
For hotels on a road, yes. For hotels below the pedestrian walkway on the caldera side, the driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach and carries the bags up.
Is a late-night departure from Fira's restaurants and bars possible?
Yes, at the same price as a daytime ride. Name the nearest square or a landmark the driver knows and the car meets you there rather than trying to reach a lane built for pedestrians.
What if traffic in town delays the pickup?
Build a short buffer into the booking time during the cruise season, when coach parties fill the streets near the cable car from mid-morning. The drive itself to the airport rarely slows down.
