Is there Uber in Santorini, and what works instead

No, there are no Uber or Bolt cars in Santorini; the Uber app shows licensed local taxis at most, and often nothing at all. A car here comes from a taxi rank, the radio taxi line, your hotel reception or a pre-booked transfer at a fixed price, from €30 for the airport to Fira.

Updated 10 September 2026. Written by the Santorini Taxi team, drivers on the island.

Every price and time on this page comes from our price list and route data, not from an estimate.

Uber, Bolt and the other ride-hailing apps built their business on private drivers with their own cars. Santorini has none of those. What the island has is a few dozen licensed taxis, and the Uber app, where it works at all, is one more way of calling one of them.

What the Uber app does here

Open the app in Fira and you may see a licensed taxi offered under a taxi product, or you may see nothing available. There are no Uber drivers on the island, so the app can only pass your request to a taxi that is free at that moment. In May and October that sometimes works. On a July afternoon at the airport, when three flights are queuing for the same taxis, it usually does not. You cannot fix a price before you land, and you cannot be sure a car will come.

Bolt, FreeNow and Lyft

Bolt has no cars in Santorini. FreeNow coverage on the island is thin or none; do not plan a night out around it. Lyft does not operate in Greece. The apps that do dispatch here send the island's licensed taxis, so an app on your phone does not add cars to the road. It adds a way of asking for the same ones.

How people actually get a car

Four ways, in the order most visitors try them.

The taxi rank

Fira has a rank in the town centre, the airport has one outside the terminal and Athinios has taxis at the exit from the ferry area. They work when the island is quiet and empty within minutes when a ferry docks or two flights land together.

The radio taxi line

The island's taxis take bookings by phone through a central line. You give an address and wait for a car or a call back; in high season the line is busy and the wait is real. Hotel receptions use it all day.

Your hotel

Reception will call a taxi or a transfer company for you. Give them an hour or more of notice in summer, and note that in Oia, Imerovigli and Firostefani the car waits at the road, not the door.

A pre-booked transfer

A private car reserved for your time, at a price fixed and paid before you travel, with a driver holding your name at the airport, the port or the hotel. This is the only one of the four with a guaranteed car.

What a booked transfer costs

Our prices are fixed per zone and per car, VAT included, the same at night. A few of the pairs people ask about:

Route Saloon, up to 4 Van, 5 to 8
Santorini Airport to Fira €30 €40
Santorini Airport to Oia €40 €55
Athinios Port to Oia €45 €60
Fira to Oia €35 €45

An app shows an estimate that can change, and it tells you nothing about whether a car will come. The price above is the whole story for the whole car, and the booking is confirmed the moment you pay. The full list is on the prices page.

Uber at Santorini Airport

The airport has one terminal and one exit from baggage. Outside it is the rank, and that is where an app-hailed taxi collects you too, after the same wait. A booked driver stands inside the hall at the baggage exit with your name, follows your flight, and waits 60 minutes after landing at no charge. The airport transfers page explains the pickup step by step, and the airport page covers the rank and night arrivals.

Getting around once you are here

For a day of beaches and villages, an hourly car with a driver is simpler than four separate calls to the taxi line: 3 hours minimum, 10 hours maximum, on the private driver page. For Fira to Oia and back at sunset, book both legs in advance; that is the hour when every taxi on the island is already taken.

Questions

Does Uber work in Santorini?

Only as a way to hail a licensed taxi, when one is free. There are no Uber drivers with their own cars on the island. When every taxi is busy, which is most summer afternoons at the airport, the app finds nothing.

Is there Bolt in Santorini?

No. Bolt has no cars on the island. Lyft does not operate in Greece at all, and FreeNow coverage here is thin or none, so do not plan an evening around any of them.

Is there a taxi app for Santorini?

There are apps that dispatch the island's licensed taxis, the same few dozen cars the ranks and the phone line use. We do not have an app; you book online in a couple of minutes as a guest, with no signup, and the confirmation arrives by email.

Can I get an Uber from Santorini Airport to Oia?

Not reliably. If the app finds a taxi, you wait outside the terminal for it. A booked transfer for the same route is €40 for the whole car, and the driver is inside the arrivals hall with your name.
