Getting around Vlychada Marina by car
Vlychada Marina is the small boat harbour on the south coast, below the white cliffs of Vlychada beach and a few minutes' drive from Emporio, the largest inland village. Catamarans and day boats leave from its pontoons for the caldera and the volcano, which makes the marina a pickup and drop-off point in its own right. By road it is one of the quiet corners of the island, a single lane down from the main road, the beach car park, then the gate.
Cars go no further than the marina gate, so every pickup and drop happens there. For a morning departure the driver drops you at the gate with the bags and you walk the pontoon. For a pickup we ask for the boat's name and its expected return time; the driver watches the clock and waits at the gate with your name. Boats coming back from a sunset cruise arrive after dark, and the pickup costs the same as at noon.
Distances from the marina are longer than they look on the map, because the road runs inland before it turns north. Fira is 15 km, about 20 minutes. Oia is 25 km, about 30 minutes, and the airport 14 km, about 20 minutes. Perissa and Perivolos, the nearest beach resorts, are 10 minutes away. Kamari is 20 minutes, and Athinios port 15 minutes across the south-west of the island.
A saloon takes up to 4 people with cruise bags, a van 5 to 8. For a private charter group we send a minibus that seats up to 20, or arrange a larger bus. Vlychada itself, with the beach and the old tomato factory, is on the same road and priced the same as the marina.
Where the driver meets you at Vlychada Marina

- 1
The marina lies at the end of the road south of Vlychada beach. Cars stop at the marina gate; the pontoons beyond it are for people on foot.
- 2
The driver waits at the gate with a sign showing the name on your booking. Give us the boat's name and its return time when you book, and the driver is at the gate when it ties up.
- 3
Boats coming back in the evening arrive together, so the gate area is busy for a short while. Walk to the gate and look for your name; the driver waits 15 minutes free from the agreed time.
Prices from Vlychada Marina

Good to know
- Book the marina pickup for the boat's return time and give the boat's name. If the weather holds the boat up, message us on WhatsApp and the pickup moves with it.
- Most cruises leave in the morning or mid-afternoon and the marina car park fills before each departure. A drop at the gate takes the parking problem away.
- Vlychada beach and its white cliffs are a short walk from the marina. With time to spare before the boat, ask the driver to drop you at the beach car park instead.
- Sunset cruises return after dark. A night pickup at the marina costs the same as a daytime one.
