Getting around Pyrgos by car
Pyrgos stands on the highest ground on the island, its old lanes climbing in stepped rings to a ruined kastro at the summit, with a view that takes in most of Santorini on a clear evening. A car reaches the lower square and the streets around it; the climb from there to the top is on foot, steps the whole way.
The airport is 6 km away, about 10 minutes. Fira is 7 km, about 10 minutes, along the same road that passes Megalochori, and Pyrgos shares that village's price zone. Many visitors combine the two with a winery stop, best booked as an hourly driver rather than separate transfers.
